Alice Harrison and Judy Lyons Schneider have won recognition, awards and accolades for their work in the United States and in Europe. Represented by several galleries, their work is in many private and public collections.
They met as young women, both raising families and working day jobs. Their first collaboration was a small art project for a local organization in New Jersey, where they both lived.
Their artistic paths paralleled, intertwined and separated over the many years of friendship. As their camaraderie grew, so did their desire to become true collaborators with a single focus and a grand idea: a commentary on both the shopping bag as an icon in our society, and on the masks we wear. The project came to life on a three week joint residency grant.
Judy and Alice brought individual experiences, associations and agendas to “Bag Ladies”. As the endeavor grew, gradually, layer by layer, working in concert, a true intermeshing of ideas, materials and artistic aesthetic evolved.
